What started off as an attempt to tell a tale about a rogue warrior seeking redemption for his past turned into a full fledged series focusing on his twin sons. When I started writing A Beginnings End, I never envisioned it would be anything more than a single story. To my surprise and my pleasure, it blossomed into The Diaries of Dark Keep.
In this series you will meet a host of interesting characters, each with their own tale to tell. The twins have been cursed from before birth to be pawns in a game only the Gods can truly understand. They have been granted incredible powers to carry out their roles but they have been given no real information about what they are to be doing. As their adventures take them farther and farther from the dark tower they called home as children, the people they meet along the way become increasingly more bizarre.
Zahn Nemo is a cleric who gave up his faith and now draws mystic energy from a slumbering ancient god of death.
Barek is a dark skinned man from a time that can not possibly exist. He plies his trade as an assassin in the service of the brothers.
Murdoch, a gruff dwarf with a bad attitude and a short temper, runs the local saloon with his only true friend Skull Splitter, an intelligent ax made of living stone.
You may find Darla to be interesting.
She is a young human woman raised by the dwarf clan in the northern part of the continent after the untimely death of her warrior father. She is a powerful and fearless fighter and has yet to find any man to be her equal. Her skills only increase when she decides to trade her immortal soul for the cold immortality of undeath.
Then there is Reina. Much like the assassin, Barek, she is from a time that could not possibly exist but... here she is. Waking to find herself gone from her advanced technological existence and plunged suddenly into a world where magic is real and horrific beasts prowl the dark shadows, she finds herself relying on the rapidly draining power of her morph tool to try and find answers.
Is it possible that one of the twins could have the answers she needs?
Could Skultor, the demonic warrior prone to fits of insane rage be the one who holds the clues to why time seems to have fragmented?
Possibly it could be his brother, Jedack. A magic user with gifts never before seen on this planet. He wields spells that were once reserved for the Gods alone as if they were simple party tricks. Could he be the one who understands why their little group is made up of people who should not even exist?
Or... maybe... the crazy old man, Metron, would have some answers. Unfortunately, he is trapped between two dimensions and that leaves him completely unable to interact with any of them. Perhaps that is for the best though. Crazy is an understatement. Metron is most certainly certifiably insane as evidenced by his constant attempts to try and repair a shattered time line he claims to have broken with his machine.
Let's be honest...
I write my stories because I really like writing my stories. Like all prospective authors, I dreamed of the days when I would be doing book signings. I fantasized about how nice it would be to give up my day job and be able to sincerely introduce myself to people as an author.
"Hi... my name is Dave Waltersdorff. Oh? You've heard the name before?"
Blushes slightly.
"Yes... I did write that series. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!"
You really can't blame a guy for dreaming, I guess.
The reality of the situation is that there are a billion talented writers in this world and now, thanks to Amazon, they finally have a platform where they can be judged on merit instead of who are or who they know.
That makes my competition both plentiful and fierce. I will not back down though. I will continue writing if I sell ten books or ten thousand books.
I guess my community would be made up of people who still value imagination and who love the escape of a good story. Science Fiction fans and Fantasy fans can both find a comfortable home here and, hopefully, spend a little quality time with one of the oddest collections of unintentional heroes that I can imagine.
If you are here reading this, I sincerely thank you for your time and I hope you can find something interesting to take with you. I also hope you realize you are not alone. This world is still populated with people who see more than the shadows. We see what could be there as well. A dragon... a crouching watcher with unknown intent... perhaps the final glimpse of a mythical beast as it turns to become part of the shadow that others only see,
Welcome to Dark Keep.
As part of my attempt to be a serious author, I have decided I will be doing a blog about things that I find interesting.
This is probably a horribly bad idea but... I believe I will attempt it anyway.
As part of my writing, I will do my best to keep anyone interested informed about upcoming books, additional projects and anything else writing related that I think people would want to know.
In all honesty... I would gladly accept any feed back you might have. If you like what you read, please let me know and if you don't... please let me know.
Thank you very much for visiting my site. I hope you are enjoying Dark Keep as much as I am!
